HOWELL'S HOTLINE
"The Latest News & Information on C. Thomas Howell"
(Latest Update: June 18, 2000)
Stop Press: Exciting New Project Announced!
Picture this: Tom, third listed in a movie alongside hot up-and-coming A-list blockbuster superstars Ryan Phillipe ('Cruel Intentions') and Heather Graham ('Austin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me'). Sound too good to be true? Well it aint, matey! Has Hollywood finally caught onto what us Howeller's have known all along? Only time will tell, but this certainly looks promising. The plot outline concerns a jewel thief, planning his last big heist, but not counting on the double cross to end all double crosses. Tom plays James Puerto Miko, no doubt in some villainry form, alongside Ryan's Baracuda Jones and Heather's Tiny McBride. Presently in pre-production, it also stars Stephen Dorff ('Blade'), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (TV's 'Seinfield'), and Mark Hamill ('Star Wars'). The writing credits are down to Xavier Beauvois and Eugene John Bellida, although no director details have yet been announced. More info as and when it becomes available, but this could be a big one folks. Exciting times are ahead... UK Video Premiere Triple Bill
The highly anticipated 'Red Team' finally comes to fruition with a UK video release at the beginning of July. Most significently it offers fans a new perspective on Tom. The chance to see him as you've NEVER seen him before! Former soap favourie Patrick Muldoon heads the cast, although it is sure to be Tom who takes all the limelight in character form as the bald-headed villain! The plot concerns a young FBI agent (Muldoon) who joins an elite team hunting serial killers, only to discover they are in fact murdering their prey. Directed by Jeremy Haft; co-starring Cathy Moriarty, Fred Ward and Tim Thomerson. FELONS aka CHARADES Also, getting it's premiere on UK shores, late June, is 'Felons' (although it was recently renamed 'Charades' for a US release that has yet to emerge.) This bizarre mystery thriller is about a down-and-out-guy who gets invited back to the house of his boss for a weekend afternoon barbecue. All is going well until one of the guests seduces the hosts wife and kills the next door neighbour for being miserable! Things go from bad to worse as the friends plot against each other to cover up their part in the crime and keep hidden their own skeletons from being rapidly discovered. Directed by Stephen Eckleberry; co-starring Erika Eleniak, Jack Scalia, James Russo, James Wilder, Karen Black and Kimberly Kates. GANG LAW aka HOT BOYZ
Completing the threesome is 'Gang Law' (previously released on video in the US as 'Hot Boyz'.) This one is about a man who avenges his innocent girlfriend's death after the justice system fails to clear her of the murder charges of two gang members. It was directed by Master P and co-stars Snoop Doggy Dogg, Gary Busey and Jeff Speakman.

Released in the UK last December, with the tagline "hell have no fury like mother nature scorned", disaster-related action and peril are abound in this one. Sounds like 'Twister' meets 'Volcano' in the snow! See Tom freeze his butt off alongside Thomas Ian Griffith, Caroline Feeney and R. Lee Emery. Steve Kroschel got to wear the woolly hat, scarf and gloves as director.
Released on video and DVD in the US as 'The Million Dollar Kid' and to UK satellite & cable TV as 'Fortune Hunters', this is a comedy/action/adventure concerning a madcap family who have just won $50 million on the lottery. Unfortunately, they've lost the ticket somewhere in the middle of L.A. and have just under four hours to find it in order to claim their prize. Directed by Neil Mandt; co-starring Estelle Getty, Alison Lohman, Maureen McCormick, Richard Thomas, Andrew Sandler and Corey Feldman
Released on video and DVD in the US at the end of last year, 'The Prince & The Surfer' is a variation on Mark Twain's classic 'Prince & Pauper' tale in which an English Prince and an American surfer who look exactly alike, trade places because each is envious of the other's life. Needless to say, it isn't long before they both realise they were perfectly happy as they were. Directed by Gregory Gieras; co-starring Ayre Gross, Vincent Schiavelli, Linda Cardellini, Robert Englund and Timothy Bottoms.
Released on video and DVD in the UK, late last year, this erotic thriller again re-unites Tom with his 'Dangerous Indiscretion' and 'Payback' co-star Joan Severance. Tom plays Michael D'Angelo, a detective who's mistake has allowed a cop killer to walk free. In the process it ended his relationship with successful attourney Theresa Marsh (Severance) who left him for another doctor. Sometime later, during a much publicised murder trial, Theresa comes back to Michael for help when her husband is kidnapped and she starts receiving death threats. Directed by Joey Travolta; co-starring Nick Mancusco and Robert Miano. DILEMMA
Late '99 saw the US video release of this dramatised feature film in which Tom plays L.A. Detective Quin, a cop responsible for the capture of mass murderer Rudy Salazar, now living on death row. However, the evil Salazar cuts a deal. If he donates his rare bone marrow to a young girl dying of leukemia, his sentence is reduced to life without parole. Only Quin sees through Salazar's selfless facade, who himself is planning a daring escape en route to the hospital. Can he bring Salazar to justice one final time and save the life of an innocent girl before it's too late? Directed by Eric Larsen; co-starring Sofia Shinas and Danny Trejo.
ENEMY ACTION
Another late '99 US video release, 'Enemy Action' concerns the military's newest weapon, a highpowered smart bomb, that is stolen. Tom plays Captain John Reed, who teams up with the vivacious Lieutenant Catherine Kelly (Lisa Thornhill) - the weapons designer - to find the thief. The search leads them to the Eastern European country of Dagistan, where they encounter terrorists plotting to detonate Washington, D.C. Directed by Brian Katkin; co-starring Beata Pozniak and Richard Lynch.
FATAL AFFAIR
Airing on US cable TV - see "C ON TV!" link below for schedule - and in the UK on Sky Moviemax. C. Thomas plays a happily married man who's past indiscretion comes back to haunt him. Furthermore, when the accused (her husband) gets off on a technicality, the start of a torturous vendetta ensues. Directed by Marc S. Grenier; co-starring Maxim Roy and Jay Underwood.
LAWS OF DECEPTION
C. Thomas stars in this thriller that is also airing on US cable TV (again see "C ON TV!" link below for further details) and has received it's worldwide video premiere in Portugal. The story involves an orphaned boy, whose parents were brutally murdered by the mob. To add to the heartache, he was burned in college courtesy of a bad relationship with a scheming femme fatale. Now a defence attorney, this very same woman re-enters his life when she is accused of murdering her soon-to-be ex-husband and requires his services - in more ways than one. Directed by Joey Travolta; co-starring Amber Smith, Krista Tesreau and Nick Mancusco. (To see more pictures from the film, click onto the title.)
THE SHEPHERD aka CYBER CITY
Released to rent on video in the UK and Canada as 'The Shepherd' last year and just recently repackaged and renamed as 'Cyber City' for the US market, this sci-fi thriller sees C. Thomas play a man disenchanted with life after the murderous slaughter of his wife and child. Set some time in the future, the earth's atmosphere has been destroyed and the remaining survivors have taken cover in an underground existence, almost devoid of total humanity. Directed by Peter Hayman; co-starring Robert Carradine and Roddy Piper. (To see more pictures from this film, click onto the title.)
Forthcoming Attractions
Classified as a dark comedy of independent-movie-making proportions, this arty little flick is a story of two men with an insatiable appetite for arguing. Apparently, it's little more than a conversation between two men, highlighting the insanity of uninformed beliefs. Co-starring Anthony Crivello, Jon Kassir, and directed by Gilbert Alexander Wadsforth III. Check out THE OFFICIAL GLASS JAR WEB SITE to see the trailer and pick up further insights into what sounds like an intriguing movie!
Little is known of this mystery title, but it has apparently done the festival rounds, being promoted as a pre-production. It involves the murder of an ambassador's son, which leads an FBI investigator into a volatile relationship. Co-starring Corbin Bersen and James Russo. Directed by Jeno Hodi.
BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE C. Thomas stars in this alongside his old 'Soul Man' buddy Ayre Gross. Also starring James Wilder and John Savage; directed by Phillipe Mara.
